This map was created using the Leaflet JavaScript library and a basemap styled in MapBox Studio.

The data for this map was gathered from Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of Louisville, Kentucky and the Caron's Louisville City Directory. The Sanborn maps depict slaughterhouses that were more informal, or simply not registered as a business and so do not appear in the city directories, making these maps an important resource for comprehensive information about animal industries in Butchertown.

Note: Louisville changed the street addresses for many buildings in 1909. The 1909 Caron's Louisville City Directory published the old and new addresses together; the addresses on the 1892 map have been rectified using the 1909 directory.
